Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) is a gentle, rhythmic massage technique that specifically activates the lymphatic system. Unlike classical massage, MLD uses very light pressure and circular movements that follow the natural lymph flow.
The method of Olivier Leduc — a Belgian pioneer of lymphology — is scientifically grounded and used in clinical practice worldwide. It is particularly suited to treating primary and secondary lymphoedema and post-operative swelling.
In combination with compression bandages or stockings (Complex Decongestive Therapy, CDT), even chronic lymphoedema can be successfully treated long-term.

Do I need a medical prescription?
For INAMI reimbursement, yes. For certain conditions (e.g. lymphedema after surgery), a specific scheme gives better reimbursement — your doctor notes this on the prescription.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on the indication. After surgery, a few sessions are often enough; for chronic lymphedema, more regular follow-up helps, combined with self-care we teach you.
Is it a relaxing massage or a medical treatment?
It's a medical technique. Manual lymphatic drainage (O. Leduc method) is very gentle but targeted: it stimulates the lymphatic system to reduce swelling. It usually feels pleasant too.
When is lymphatic drainage indicated?
After surgery (e.g. breast or orthopedic), for lymphedema, heavy legs or slow healing. We check at the assessment whether it suits your case.
Are there cases where it should not be done?
Yes — for example acute infection, untreated thrombosis or severe heart failure. That's why we always do a short check first; if in doubt, we consult your doctor.
What should I wear or bring?
Comfortable clothing that gives easy access to the area to treat. Bring your prescription and any prescribed compression garments.
