Girêka Çenê (TMJ)

Terapiya pispor a disfonksiyona kranomandîbular (CMD)

Terapiya pispor a disfonksiyona kranomandîbular (CMD). Dermankirina êşa çenê, serêş, gêjbûn û tengezariya situ.

Craniomandibular dysfunction (CMD) affects approximately 10–15% of the population and is often the hidden cause of headaches, ear pain or chronic neck tension. TMJ therapy is a highly specialised discipline within physiotherapy.

Our specialist Fabienne Dormann has been trained in the most current methods (Pitance, GIOP, Gouzland 2025). Treatment combines intra- and extra-oral techniques on the chewing muscles and the TMJ itself, complemented by cervical treatment and home exercises.

Close collaboration with orthodontists and dentists is often part of the overall concept — an interdisciplinary approach that delivers the best results.

Frequently asked questions

Who refers me for TMJ therapy?

Referrals often come from dentists, orthodontists or ENT specialists. You can also contact us directly — we assess whether TMJ therapy fits and coordinate with your dentist if needed. A prescription is still required for INAMI reimbursement.

How many sessions will I need?

Many TMJ (CMD) problems improve within a few sessions, combined with simple home exercises. We reassess regularly and adapt — the goal is your autonomy.

Can physiotherapy really help jaw pain and clicking?

Yes, often. Clicking on its own is common and usually harmless — nothing to « fix ». When there is pain, tension or limited opening, targeted techniques and exercises help reliably.

Which symptoms belong to a TMJ disorder (CMD)?

Jaw pain, clicking or locking, headaches, ear or facial pressure, neck tension and sometimes dizziness. These symptoms are often linked and can be addressed together.

Should I keep seeing my dentist?

Yes. Physiotherapy doesn't replace your dentist, it complements them — for example alongside a bite splint. We're happy to coordinate with them if needed.

Is the treatment painful?

No. The techniques are gentle and adapted to your sensitivity, including intra-oral work. You stay in control and tell us what feels comfortable.
